What should I know about my WIC EBT Food Benefits?
WIC eligible family members will receive your WIC food benefits and Michigan WIC Bridge Card during your initial visit to the WIC clinic.
|
How to use your card at the store:
- Use your WIC shopping list when shopping with your Michigan WIC
Bridge Card.
- With your WIC food card and your current WIC shopping list, go through
the store and select the WIC food items you need.
- When you are done shopping, look for checkout lanes designated with the Michigan WIC
Bridge Card sign.
- At the checkout lane, separate your WIC eligible food items from your other groceries.
- Tell the cashier that you are using your Michigan WIC Bridge Card.
- You or the cashier will swipe your card through the point of sale (POS) machine.
- Enter your 4-digit PIN.
- Give the cashier any manufacturer or store cents-off coupons.
- The cashier scans each item to confirm that it is an approved WIC eligible food item and that the food item can be purchased that day.
- The cashier enters the amounts of the cents-off coupons and totals all of the WIC food items.
- The cashier gives you a WIC EBT receipt. Make sure you have your card and receipt when you leave the store.
|
What is a PIN?
- PIN stands for Personal Identification Number. You must have a 4-digit
PIN to use your Michigan WIC Bridge Card.
-
You will need the following information to select a new PIN:
- The Card Number (16 digits on the front of your card).
- The 5-digit zip code of the WIC authorized person.
- The date of birth of the WIC authorized person.
- You will select your 4-digit PIN when you first get your Michigan WIC Bridge Card at the WIC clinic.
-
Choose a PIN that is easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess. For example, don't use your birth date.
-
Never tell anyone else, including a grocery store cashier, your secret PIN.
-
Never write your PIN on your card or card sleeve.
-
DO NOT write your PIN on anything you carry in your wallet or purse.
|
How do I protect my Michigan WIC Bridge Card benefits?
-
If your Michigan WIC Bridge Card is lost or stolen, call Customer Service
immediately. Your benefits will be protected as soon as you report
your card is lost or stolen. A new card with your remaining benefits
can be issued.
-
When entering your PIN to make a purchase, be sure no one else can see
what number you are entering. If someone learns your PIN and uses your card
and PIN to purchase your benefits, these benefits will not be replaced.
-
If you think someone else has learned your PIN, call Customer Service
immediately to choose a new PIN. Your Michigan WIC Bridge Card and
benefits will not change.
|
Misuse of your Michigan WIC Bridge Card or food benefits is a violation
of state and federal laws.
DO NOT:
-
Sell, trade or give away your WIC food benefits, PIN or Michigan WIC
Bridge Card.
-
Allow a retailer to buy your food benefits in exchange for cash.
-
Use someone else’s WIC food benefits or Michigan WIC Bridge Card for your household.
-
Return your WIC food benefits for unapproved food items, non food items, credit or cash.
People who break WIC program rules may be disqualified from the program or fined, and be required to repay the benefits.
